The Rejected Capstone

Psa 118:22 The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner. In Daniel’s vision, He sees how a rock that is not cut with human hands becomes a great mountain that fills all nations. It fills the void left by the decline and fall of great kings and empires that have feet of clay or full of human frailties. That rock is Jesus. He is a rock of escape for humanity, the Rock of our salvation. He is the cornerstone and the keystone in God’s House of salvation. A master sculptor or a master builder searches carefully to look for the right kind of stone to sculpt or build with. There are stones that look solid from the outside but have fault lines and flaws running deep inside. The world accepts stones from the quarry but will not accept that which the Lord God Himself has provided. This living stone is a stone of stumbling for some and a stone of offence for others as it exposes their lives or offends their beliefs. In association with Him, we too become part of the cornerstone and keystone. We too will be rejected by the builders or key decision makers in our societies, organizations, firms, governments, families and even churches but eventually, we will be part of the cornerstone, grace or thanks to the Capstone. Hence, even when we are rejected by any or all, we should not be dejected but strengthen our faith by staying rooted in our foundation and draw strength by keeping our eyes fixed on the Capstone. Many people literally treat Jesus as the cornerstone and push Him to the corner of their lives. Scripture says that those who willingly fall on the cornerstone will be broken in spirit but those on whom it falls will be crushed, implying that they will fall. It is the same stone that is responsible equally for the rise of some and the fall of some. This is the stone that is both the foundation of our lives and the capstone or the stone in the topmost portion of the building towards which we grow. It unites both the strength( the foundation) and the purpose (the purpose ) of our lives. It is a precious stone and a tried or tested stone. When we rub against this stone, our rough edges and places or the angularities of our character get smoothened. This is the touchstone to test another stone or precious metal. The Lord our Maker uses this touchstone to test whether we do make the grade, whether we are Kingdom material. Prateep V Philip
