UV 1609/10000 The Purpose and the Plan for Man
The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand:
Isaiah 14 v 24
History might appear to be a meandering river with no apparent direction or purpose but as we read history along with scripture, we see the overarching purpose of God in and through all the seemingly unconnected events. That Adam’s disobedience could lead to the impact on all mankind and Jesus’ s obedience could lead to the salvation of all mankind are pointers to the influence and potential of even one individual to affect humanity. Within the overarching purpose of God, each of us has a role and a contribution to make. Our thoughts, words and actions convert into each other and reinforce each other just as the thought of the Lord leads to His purpose being fulfilled in this universe. That power of thought of God is reflected in each uni-verse.

Each of us is a small part of a gigantic mirror but each part is able to reflect the image or glory of God as we align ourselves to conform to the Word and not to the world. We do not allow the world to shape us but we submit to the Word to shape us. A potter knows the purpose of each vessel of clay he moulds. Likewise, the Lord alone knows the purpose of each of our lives. Our role is not to resist His moulding us but to yield to His loving hands. Sometimes, a turn here or a twist there might be painful for some time but that pain was intended to add value or intrinsic beauty or strength to the overall design. We should not resent it but submit to it as Jesus submitted to the Father’s will even though it caused Him an infinite level of pain. If we look at the course of all rivers and streams on the planet Earth we find that they flow from the high places- the hills and mountains across plains to the low places- the coasts and into the sea. In the kingdom of God, it is the reverse- the flow of our destinies defies gravity and flows from the low places to the high places. To illustrate, David started at a low place as a young lad and shepherd and ended up as the Shepherd –King, Joseph started as a slave at the lowest point in his life and ended up as second only to Pharaoh in Egypt. Moses started as a helpless babe in a basket of reeds and ended up as deliverer of captive Israel and intercede with God. Jesus started as a babe in a manger and ended up as the highest in all of humanity and in the kingdom of God.

The Lord’s will is sovereign. It shall come to pass. It cannot be thwarted or stopped. It is a privilege to partner with the Lord to have His kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. We will be better, able and more willing partners in His plan if we spend time reflecting on the thoughts, the words and actions of the Lord in our personal lives as well as in common human history. As we meditate on these, things will begin to fall in place. We will see the patterns and master design of the Lord in our lives and in the lives of others and instead of being passive objects would be active subjects to hasten the will and purpose of the Lord.
