Double Growth

UV 3211/10000 Double Growth
And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward:
Isaiah 37 v 31

If we belong to Christ, then we are the remnant, the filtered residue, the seed of Abraham and the heirs of the promise of God. We belong also to the house of Judah for Judah means “praise”. We continually offer as many praises as there are stars in the sky, as there are sand particles on the Earth and cells in our bodies. We have escaped the wrath and judgement of God on account of the mercy of God. We are the chosen remnant by the election of grace of God. We now have the duty of growing our roots downward into Christ, the Word and growing our fruit upward. We need to grow in two directions- first downward till we reach the bedrock of Christ and upward bearing fruit of the spirit.
If we do not grow enough downward with our roots, we cannot grow enough upwards with our fruit. We need to delve daily , frequently, if not continually into the Word of God. We need to spend time in the presence of the Lord. We need to connect continually with the Holy Spirit and listen to His whispers and promptings, cutting out the din of the outer world. Our roots have to grow deeper and outward till we reach the river of God to draw nourishment and strength. Our roots are not visible but are tested in storms and also tested in the quality of the fruit of character and service. Our fruit in contrast are visible to every passer by. We cannot alter the fruit without minding the roots.
Even the words we speak or write should be potent enough to cause the healing of the nations, which implies a variety of issues, problems, challenges that humanity faces in different parts of the world without exception. Every month like the heavenly trees we should aim to produce a different fruit that is spiritually nourishing to people and delicious to God. The Lord of the harvest as God is called in the Bible owns us, cares for us, fences us and prunes us to produce more and better fruit. When we grow intentionally and intensely downward, we will grow incidentally or automatically upward with all kinds of fruit. As fruit bearing plants, we should also expect stones to be thrown at us- accusations, allegations, insinuations, persecutions, opposition. We can expect the Divine Gardener to take care of us so that we escape all such assaults, attacks. If we give no fruit, less fruit or bitter fruit, we invite the Gardener to cut us down as wood for the fire. As plants of God on earth, we live not to be served but to serve others with the fruit of our lives, our labour and our character. The oxygen we breathe, the manure, the water are the wages we are paid to live and bear fruit.
