UV 1061/10,000 No Obligation to Anyone but God
That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:
Genesis 14 v 23
The king of Sodom wanted to reward Abram aka Abraham with the spoils of war that belonged to the king and Abram had brought back to him. Abram had pursued four chieftains and brought back the goods that belonged to the king of Sodom. But Abram refused to take even a thread or a thong of a sandal so that the latter would not be able to say that he had made Abram rich. Abram said that he had raised his hand in praise and prayer to the Lord, God Most High, Elohim, Creator of heaven and earth and he had taken a covenant oath. He could not be obligated or in debt to anyone else.
The Lord does not want us to be in obligation to any human being. He desires our complete allegiance and devotion. He undertakes to provide that which we need. We only need to look to the Lord in faith. Abram which means “exalted father” was later called Abraham or “ father of many nations.” He had exalted the Father and as a result, Abram became greatly blessed as the father of many nations, the father of Israel as well as many nations of the Middle East and the father of faith in all nations of the world.
We should not just say with our lips the Lord’s prayer, “ Our Father in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name.” Like Abraham, we must hallow or keep holy the Name of the Lord in our daily lives. Our worship of God becomes true only when our understanding of who He is, how great He is mingles with our lifestyle, our attitudes and our choices in life. It becomes true, meaningful, powerful, effective and beautiful only when we realize how real is His grace in our daily challenges and struggles.
